Probably one of the best bodyweight exercises one can do in my honest opinion.
How do you do them?
It's easy to describe but quite hard to do.
Simply hang from a suspended bar and pull yourself up with just your arms.
Palms inward are easier to do. Start with them if you're a beginner.
If you can get the strength to do a dozen pull ups like the example shown below, then you won't have any weight issues.
Your body needs to be very strong in order to be able to pull yourself up.
If you can do pull ups the your body would have already shed all of the excess fat.
So get the strength. Gradually build up your strength. Your upper body strength.
It's a great way to lose weight and motivate yourself.
Start by just hanging from the bar for several minutes at a time. This is a workout in itself. It's called a dead hang.
When you do a dead hang you build up your grip strength and forearm strength.
Then you can move to the next phase.
Get a bench or stool to stand on.
Start by jumping up from the stool and then holding your chin up above the bar.
By doing this you're once again building up grip strength. You are also strengthening your shoulders, chest, back and arms.
Make sure you have your lower body core (I will teach you about this soon) activated and that you're breathing properly.
Exhale as you pull yourself up. You're flexing your muscles as you pull yourself up, so exhale whilst you do this.
Then inhale as you release your muscles. Lower yourself slowly. That's the eccentric part of muscle movement.
Releasing the muscle contraction slowly, not suddenly, allows for controlled movement.
